The Benefits of

Group Therapy

  • Group therapy draws on the power of connection to provide a unique and highly effective form of psychotherapy. While individual therapy is the modality of choice when it comes to providing crisis intervention, one-on-one attention, and individualized treatment plans, research has shown that professionally-led group psychotherapy is as effective, if not more so, than individual therapy for a wide range of conditions.

  • Group therapy can be a powerful tool for healing and personal growth as it offers a safe environment where individuals can share their experiences and challenges, helping to alleviate feelings of isolation and fostering a sense of belonging. By hearing others’ stories, you can gain insights and find comfort in knowing you are not alone in your struggles.

  • Group therapy also provides emotional support and accountability from peers who understand what you are going through. This shared support encourages commitment to your healing journey, while diverse perspectives can lead to new insights and coping strategies. Participants also have the opportunity to practice social skills, receive constructive feedback, and model healthier ways of relating to others, all of which can enhance your self-esteem and empower you in your personal life.

  • Group therapy can significantly help normalize mental health struggles, reducing stigma and creating a culture of openness and vulnerability. With the added benefits of being cost-effective and accessible, group therapy offers a rich resource for those seeking to heal, connect, and grow alongside others on similar journeys.

questions you may have about my groups

  • All groups (except the Men's Journey group) are designed for self-identified women over the age of 18. I believe everyone should be treated equally regardless of race, sex, gender identification, sexual orientation, national origin, native language, religion, age, disability, marital status, citizenship, genetic information, pregnancy, or any other characteristic protected by law.

Virtual members from the following PsyPact states.*

  • Contact me for a free 10-minute phone consultation to help you determine the best treatment option. To learn about the different groups I offer, click here.

  • Just like individual therapy, group therapy requires participants to maintain confidentiality outside of the group. Feelings of mutual trust and safety are necessary for a transformative group experience. Because confidentiality is a common concern for potential group members, it is addressed at length and members are required to sign a confidentiality agreement to participate in the group. To further confidentiality, members are asked to only use their first names when participating in in-office or online groups on HIPAA-compliant Zoom.

  • No, but doing individual, concurrent therapy while in a group often expedites your recovery process.

  • Groups are kept small and intimate, with a maximum of 8-10 members.

  • My practice has a business associate agreement with Zoom which ensures that its platform incorporates all of the necessary security controls to meet the strict requirements of HIPAA. For additional confidentiality during Zoom groups, I ask that group members only display their first name and agree not to record any part of a session.

  • While there may be times that group members have passive suicidal thoughts, my groups are not appropriate for those who struggle with chronic suicidal ideation or gestures. If your are feeling suicidal, please reach out to a local therapist or call or text 988 to connect with the national Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. You may also text 741741 from anywhere in the US to connect with a live crisis counselor.

  • If you are participating in a psychoeducational group, you may connect with other group members outside of group sessions with mutual consent only after the group series has ended. I recommend those in process groups to refrain from outside contact to prevent creating unhealthy cliques, confidentiality issues, and a reluctance to bring your issues to the entire group.

  • Depending on the type and duration of the group series, 90-minute sessions range from $75-100 per group.

The fee for the couples groups series is $150 per couple per session, for a total of $600 for the 4 session series.

Psychoeducational group series are to be paid in full prior to the first session unless we have agreed upon a different arrangement.

Process groups will be billed in monthly increments. Confidential online credit card payments add a $6.00 service fee per transaction. In-person group members may also pay by check or cash. My practice does not file insurance claims.
