The healing power of connection

While individual therapy is the modality of choice when it comes to providing crisis intervention, one-on-one attention, and individualized treatment plans, research has shown that professionally-led group psychotherapy is as effective, if not more so, than individual therapy for a wide range of conditions.

Group therapy draws on the power of connection to provide a unique and highly effective form of psychotherapy.

What Clients Are Saying

“I was fortunate to find Dr. Prigoff and join her processing group during a time when my life was being turned upside down. The opportunity to attend these sessions weekly has been instrumental to my recovery and health. She has created a group of women who can relate to each other genuinely and compassionately, learn from one another, and help each other on the path of self discovery. Along the way she has taught us how to reflect, share, and trust ourselves through this small community. Group has become one of my most treasured safe spaces. I look forward to refuge and the realizations I know each session will bring.”  (RC)

“After years of engaging in individual therapy, I really didn’t think that group sessions would work for me. I can wholeheartedly say that joining Dr. Prigoff’s group has been transformative and has changed my life in ways I never could have fathomed. It didn’t take long for me to realize how unexpectedly connected I felt to the other participants: I love our group dynamic and genuinely look forward to each meeting. The safe space that Dr. Prigoff provides for us allows me to openly process and share that experience with others, which has been the best thing for my journey of personal growth.” (TM)

“I have participated in several of Gina’s groups over the past few years. Gina has provided a safe and nonjudgmental space which has allowed me to be vulnerable with groups of people whom I would not normally do so. She respects what each member brings to group and both meets you where you are at and respectfully pushes you out of your comfort zone. She often speaks on the power of the group process in the healing journey.  Gina’s keen ability to put together a variety of relevant material and facilitate the group with authenticity and humor, allows for each member to take away what is most important for their own healing.” (AB)

“Prior to attending group therapy, I didn’t originally know what to expect from a collective experience. Dr. Prigoff does an excellent job of communicating what each particular group will focus on prior to joining a group. This allows clients to decide which groups are the best fit to meet your individual needs. At the first session of the group Dr. Prigoff gives clear expectations of how the group will operate and the guidelines that enable a safe group setting. She does a great job of allowing all individuals within the group the time and space to share each week. She also explains that while it is helpful to share to get the most out of your sessions it is ok to choose to not share at times as well. The group setting met my needs in many ways by showing me that I’m not alone in the things I’m working on with my mental health. The group offered opportunities and new experiences to continue to practice healthier mental health strategies within the group as well as between group sessions on the homework exercises. The group was an excellent supplement to the work I have been doing in individual therapy and on my own. I highly recommend that anyone who has the opportunity to work with Dr. Prigoff take full advantage of the healing that can take place in the therapy she provides.” (SR)

“Dr. Prigoff's Women's group series, surrounding a variety of topics, has really been a game changer for me. I have learned a lot about myself and grew to be comfortable in this safe environment to share and continue to process my thoughts and experiences. It is wonderful to be able to connect and relate to others as humans, even if we have different life paths, careers, family dynamics, or experiences. I feel like this group itself is an amazing tool for my mental health journey to help ease my anxiety and reactivity to life's challenges, while learning new tools with every session from other members.” (IP)

“The processing groups have been incredibly helpful and eye opening. Hearing others’ experiences has given me new perspectives on my own experiences, and the tools to address thought and behavior patterns that weren’t serving me well. It has also helped me be more understanding towards other people in my life whose motivations I may not have been able to comprehend in the past. After getting to hear so many perspectives from group members who were brave and vulnerable in sharing their thoughts, feelings, and motivations, I feel that I have a better set of tools to both understand and support those around me. “(MR)

“I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.”
